Precautions for Using Ceramic Fiber Modules

2025-03-27

Ceramic fiber modules are inorganic, non-combustible materials made by needle-punching ceramic fiber cotton into a blanket and then compressing it. They will not burn or smoke when exposed to high temperatures. However, if used in a flame environment at excessive temperatures for a long time, the fibers will become brittle, leading to internal structural collapse, reduced insulation performance, and even furnace lining detachment. Therefore, material selection should follow the principle of "better too high than too low," allowing sufficient margin based on the furnace temperature.

In addition to material selection, the following points should be noted during use:

1. Water and Moisture Prevention

Ceramic fiber modules are sensitive to moisture. Once corroded by water, their insulation performance will be significantly reduced. Avoid contact with water during installation and use, and strictly prohibit prolonged immersion.

2. Prevention of Mechanical Damage

Ceramic fiber modules have a woven fiber structure with limited strength, and the surface is easily damaged by bumps and friction. Handle with care during transportation and installation, avoiding collisions with hard objects.

3. Prevention of Wind Erosion

In high-wind-velocity kilns, long-term airflow may carry away surface fibers, which is difficult to completely prevent even with a hardener. Surface protection measures need to be assessed based on the operating conditions. IV. Precision Design and Construction

Before furnace lining installation, a professional team should develop a plan and provide drawings. During construction, strictly follow the drawings for layout and anchor bolt welding. The anchor bolt welding position must be accurate, with strict error control; gaps must be tightly filled, as even small gaps can affect the furnace's lifespan.

V. Standard Installation Sequence

Install the backing layer first, then construct the modules.

Install the furnace top modules first, then install the furnace walls.

Furnace wall modules should be installed from bottom to top.

Modules are mostly arranged in a parallel, unidirectional manner. After each row is installed, a compressive blanket should be laid.

Compressive blankets should be laid at the junctions between the top and walls, and between walls.

VI. Regular Maintenance

After the furnace lining is put into use, the integrity of the modules should be checked regularly. A hardener should be sprayed onto the surface promptly, damaged modules should be replaced, and the furnace lining should be repaired to extend its service life.
